The key question is whether or not psychology is based on a world view which opposes the essentials of the Christian faith. This includes the assumptions of psychology of materialism, rationalism, determinism and relativism, and that humans are not self-aware, responsible and free moral agents. Christians cannot accept these philosophical assumptions and at the same time remain true to their faith.

Within Christianity there is a wide variety of opinions concerning the validity of psychology in general and psychotherapy in particular. One extreme camp believes that only the Bible can be used in determining truth and that science cannot be trusted. At the other extreme are those who are willing to accept truth as determined by science even when it clearly contradicts Biblical interpretation. And there is every possible viewpoint in between. Johnson and Jones (2000) express the issue succinctly: "Christians have taken different positions regarding the extent to which they should have anything to do with modern psychology, some embracing it wholeheartedly, others rejecting it just as vigorously, and many others falling somewhere between

Wow, I think that we cannot separate the two when we do we run the danger of seeing the devil behind everything.

For instance we had a guy who was suffering form skitsifenia and needed medication. When he stopped the medication it was terrible, he started preach to plants saying they could here him and so on.

I think we need to see them go hand in hand.

I think that there are many different views on this subject especially as people have all had different experiences and see the world through different lenses which shape their world view.

I guess like everything there is a good side and a bad side.

As a Christian Youth Pastor and wanting to help other people over come issues and problems in their lives I decided to study psychology. The university that I started studying through, one of the best in S.A, had good material but I also questioned how Biblical it was. I eventually dropped out as I did not agree with most of the stuff they were saying.

I think that is where Christian Counseling comes into place. Here you get a solid Christian foundation as well as the skills needed to truly help someone with serious issues.

There are also more Christian institutions opening up that specialize in Christian Psychology which is based on the Bible and Biblical principles.

As far as science goes there are some great Christian scientists out there, many of them who actually started out to try and prove that there is no God, but ended up proving the exact opposite and giving their lives over to Him. Creation Ministries are really great and they are all Christian scientists!!

You should also check out Wyatt Archaeological Research and see how they have discoverd so many different things that prove the Bible is real!

Again I think that each person has their own view and mind sets... but it is always good to challenge each other and to try and broaden our knowledge and learn from each other!
